Geoffrey WorkmanNew England boasts a natural beauty with it's gorgeous landscapes from ocean to mountain, wild, plentious wildlife and charming inhabitants. And, from this never-ending supply of subject matter, comes the art of Geoffrey Workman.

Geoffrey's art reflects his love of nature. His artistic expressions are developed in pastels, oils, watercolors, graphite and charcoal, as well as scupture in natural materials; wood, stone, antler, clay, forged metals and bronze display the depth of Geoffrey's talent.

Geoffrey's artist mother introduced him to the art world at a very early age. She enterd him in his first art competition at the age of six, at a regional Exposition. At about the same time, his father and brothers started taking him hunting and fishing during each season of the year. Geoffrey had soon developed a passion for nature, wildlife and the outdoors. Combining this with his talent for painting and sculpting, he began to create wonderful pieces of art.

Upon graduating from high school, Geoffrey went to college to study art education. He had the opportunity to study with many great professors, like the now famous Warren Kimball. After two years,  he discovered teaching was not the direction he wanted to take, so he took a break from formal education  and settled down to raise a family.  While working in the technology field, he continued to pursue his education and art after business hours. He was on the board of Directors of the Northern Vermont Artist Association and participated in numerous art shows, and showed his work in galleries.

It wasn't until Geoffrey was in his late thirties that he realized he could never be truly happy until he devoted his life entirely to art. He retired from his technical position and moved, with his family, into rural Maine, surrounded by nature and wildlife. He continued his education, getting his BFA at the University of Southern Maine, where, in his senior year, he earned the coveted "Sculptor of the Year" award.

Just as Geoffrey's full time art career seemed to take off, his health plummeted. He spent the better part of a year hospitalized. He was diagnosed with several severe illnesses, but the biggest setback was when he lost most of his eyesight to ischemic optic neuropathy. He was left with no central vision and only partial peripheral vision; a major challenge to a visual artist. However, art is a passion and the artist can no more stop creating than they can stop breathing. Using this passion, coupled with perserverance, Geoffrey has continued to produce paintings and sculpture that capture the beauty of nature. He continues to show and win ribbons in all aspects of his art.

We invite you to take a few minutes and journey through Geoffrey's website and enjoy his love of art and nature through his creations.
